Bromley North Councillor Update June 2021

This is a copy of the update that we provide to local Labour party members, but it’s relevant for everyone who we represent so we share it online here too.

Hello,

We start this update with the impossibly sad news of the passing of our council and Labour party colleague, Cllr John Pierce. John served the community in the Weavers ward of Tower Hamlets as a ward Cllr since 2012. He campaigned against cuts to local services, pushed for investment in his local ward, spoke passionately in support of good governance locally, and was also an excellent Chair of the…

Hello,

Thank you to everyone in Bromley-by-Bow for continuing to stay at home and do your bit to help keep covid cases down. This disease has sadly taken the lives of too many of our neighbours and friends already in Bromley-by-Bow, and our thoughts are with all those who have lost family members in recent months. Keep on keeping each other safe. …

Hello,

With coronavirus cases rising in Tower Hamlets and across London it’s incredibly important that we all keep on doing right by our neighbours and minimising the risk that we each individually transmit the virus.

This means not visiting each others’ homes and making sure that we keep social interactions indoors to a minimum. Wash your hands. Wear face masks. Keep your distance.

Hello,

The health crisis we’re now in is fast becoming an economic crisis. If we had a government willing to put jobs and economic support first, the next few months could be very different. As it is, the furlough scheme is winding down already even though lots of businesses still haven’t even been able to open up. This approach by the government makes it all the more important that…

The community and council response

As the local Councillors for Bromley North, we wanted to provide you with update on the situation here in Tower Hamlets. This is a testing time for the country, and for London in particular where the number of cases is running ahead of the rest of the UK. Please follow the government…

We hope you’ve all had a restful time over the Christmas break, and enjoyed seeing in the start of a new decade. Many party members were very deserving of a rest, having spent hours and hours knocking on doors for candidates across the country in order to get a Labour government elected — thank you for how generous so many of you were with your time.

Tower Hamlets returned…

Over the past few months Tower Hamlets Council has been working on proposals to transform the way the streets in Bethnal Green are used as part of our Liveable Streets programme. Bethnal Green is the first of seventeen areas that will benefit from investment as part of this scheme of works.

I’ve been working with Mayor John Biggs, ward councillors and council staff on this programme since May last year and I thought it’d be helpful, now that the Cabinet report detailing the final proposals for the area has been published, to say a few words about the final plans…

Bromley North Councillor Update October 2019

It looks like a general election might not be as imminent as we thought even just a few weeks ago. With more and more Labour MPs coming round to the idea of a 2ndr eferendum this side of a general election, we might be a few months yet away from having the chance to boot out this rotten government and replace it with a radical Labour administration. This means we might have a few more weeks of calm — and being able to focus on Bromley North — before the election campaign starts.

So, with the support of our branch…
